Why Learn Windsurfing with Boardsports?
Boardsports School & Shop has been teaching beginner lessons every season since 2002. We have enjoyed being voted "Best of the Bay" for several years in a row and we invite you to see what our customers say about us on our Testimonials page. We enjoy exclusive teaching rights at 2 of the best beach locations in the Bay Area - Crown Beach Alameda and Coyote Point Park in San Mateo. We have side on shore winds, long sandy beaches, and shallow warm water. Learn at these two ideal beginner and intermediate locations where you will come back to practice on your own. We also offer a full retail shop and can outfit you with all of the gear including board, sail, mast, boom, accessories, and wetsuit.
We have many instructors working with us and are always hiring new ones! Our instructors are certified by US Sailing (Windsurfing Certification Program).

We sometimes are sold out the day before, so feel free to give us alternate dates in a "note to seller" if you pay/register last minute. If you prefer to chat about any questions you may have, feel free to Email or call us 415-385-1224. All lessons include all equipment. Reservations & advance payment are required for all lessons. Once you are paid and reserved for a lesson, we do not allow cancellations or offer any refunds. In the case of inclement weather or no wind, we will contact you to reschedule your lesson to another date.

Sun block, a towel, snacks, bottled water, and warm clothes to change into after your lesson.

ADVANCED BEGINNER LESSONS:

$90 per 2 hour group lesson

We recommend at least 2-4 hours of practice between each lesson.
STEERING & STANCE: This class is for graduates of the beginner windsurfing lesson. By the end of this class you will have the skills to sail exactly where you want to go. Refine your steering so that you can comfortably sail to any point, upwind, downwind or cross wind. Special emphasis will be placed on correcting and refining your stance so that you can comfortably handle higher winds and progress to your next level of windsurfing.
FAST TACK: By the end of this lesson, you not longer need to do a basic beginner turn, but you will be able to “sail through” your upwind turns! This class also reinforces upwind and downwind sailing.
PIVOT JIBE: By then end of this lesson, you will be able to steer and sail straight downwind, pivot your hips and jibe the board. No more stepping around the front of your board! You will be able to turn downwind, flip the sail and voila!
BEACH STARTING: By then end of this lesson, will understand how to control your board’s pointing direction by using the sail. This will allow you to get the board pointed across the wind, step onto the board, and sail off – no more initial uphauling!
