Boardsports School & Shop has been teaching beginner, intermediate, and advanced lessons every season since 2002. We enjoy exclusive teaching rights at 2 of the best beach locations in the Bay Area - Crown Beach Alameda and Coyote Point Park in San Mateo. We have side on shore winds, long sandy beaches, and shallow warm water. Learn at these two ideal beginner and intermediate locations where you will come back to practice on your own. We also offer a full retail shop and can outfit you with all of the gear including board, sail, mast, boom, accessories, and wetsuit.
We have many instructors working with us! Our instructors are certified by US Sailing Windsurfing Instructor Program.

INTERMEDIATE LESSONS:
We recommend confident sailing in moderate winds and chop before progressing to this intermediate level. We have a full calendar for lessons for Spring and Summer. Visit our CALENDAR page for specific dates for the lessons listed below.
HARNESS LESSON:
By the end of this lesson, you will be comfortable wearing a harness and hooking into and out of your sail. You will understand the fundamental steps of getting your feet into the foot straps. You will also understand what causes “catapulting” and how to avoid it!
We have a full selection of windsurfing harnesses in our retail shops. We will help you select the best fit, and get you "hooked" on windsurfing!
Boardsports offers several brands of new windsurf harnesses at both Alameda and San Mateo
WATERSTARTING LESSON:
By the end of this lesson, you will know the secrets of setting up for a water start using little to know energy and how waterstart (have the sail pull you up out of the water rather than uphauling). This is a stellar lesson for sail/board steering, efficient setup and reaching windsurfing nirvana.

PRIVATE LESSONS:
As a private 1 on 1 lesson, you can learn any skills you please. Work on harness, waterstarting, jibing, freestyle, or any skill you have in mind. All taught at Crown Beach Alameda or Coyote Point in San Mateo. Off Site lessons are available on request at Crissy Field, 3rd Avenue, Candlestick Park, Berkeley Marina, Sherman Island or your favorite sailing site.
CARVING JIBE LESSON:
The ultimate feeling, carving a nice jibe!
By the end of this lesson, you will understand the fundamental steps for a fully planing, carving jibe. This technique will be broken down into the entry, the carve, the sail flip and the exit! Let’s get you doing those “butter” jibes!!!
All taught at Coyote Point in San Mateo. Off Site lessons are available on request at Crissy Field, 3rd Avenue, Candlestick Park, Berkeley Marina, Sherman Island or your favorite sailing site.
